From the first icy, cloud-covered day to braving blizzards on the second, and finally basking under sunny, snowy peaks on the last — the three drastically changing weather conditions became a symbolic representation of the MedSoc Ski Trip 2025. With six-hour coach rides broken up by Zoey’s iconic jokes including stopping at the “renowned Scottish restaurant” — aka McDonald’s — and super-early 6:30am wake-ups for breakfast before hitting the slopes, every moment was an experience. Whether you were tackling your first beginner lesson, shredding blue runs at Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow, or Perisher Valley, or unwinding at night in the sauna, debriefing in cozy 6-person bunkers, or vibing at one of the epic themed parties organized by Charlie and Bec, there was something for everyone. MedSoc sold out the trip in under 24 hours this year, attracting a record-breaking 60 participants — up from just 20 in 2024. Whether it was Bec and Charlie’s infectious enthusiasm since P-day or the sheer excitement of first-years camping out on their phones to secure a slot, one thing is clear: this ski trip left everyone wanting more.
🏔️ But Don’t Just Take My Word For It…
Here’s what some of this year’s participants had to say:
❄️ What was the most memorable moment of the trip?
Kiran, Y1:
“The first time I skied down a real slope after my first lesson, my friends and I hit a green run at Smiggin Holes. I somehow survived the J-bar, but we had a full-on quadruple stack going down. I don’t even remember who fell first, just that we were all lying in the snow laughing 10 metres from the top.”
Gwen, Y1:
“Seeing some of my friends roll up in crazy costumes first night (shout out the neon orange mullet and OJ cosplay 🫣) was pretty funny. Also, figuring out I boarded the first 1.5 days with my feet strapped into the board completely wrong is something my friends are never gonna let me forget… “
🎭 Themed Parties, Social Energy & Organising Chaos
Speaking of costumes — this year’s themed nights (Neon Night, Character Dress-Up, Trivia Night) were a massive hit, thanks to the efforts of our directors, Bec and Charlie.
Bec laughed as she recalled how surprised she was at everyone’s commitment to the costumes, she didn’t expect everyone to take the the themes as seriously as they did, but that made the nights so much more fun.
But the real magic wasn’t just in the outfits — it was in the people.
“Everyone was outgoing in their own way,” Bec said. “It was just really nice to see people let go, have fun, and give new things a shot.”
Gwen, who was voted Most Social Person, agreed:
“I went into the trip hoping to meet new people and strengthen friendships, so the setup made it easy. We were in the same motel, same bus, and constantly bumping into each other. Med students tend to be friendly already, so it never felt awkward.”
Despite the planning starting way early, Bec says organising the trip with Charlie was one of the best things she’s done. Fun fact:
The two actually decided to run for Sports Directors on a ski lift during the 2024 trip. Talk about full circle.
“Planning would’ve been 10 times harder without Charlie,” Bec shared. “We balance each other out really well. If you’re running for Sports Director next year — start early, make it inclusive, and honestly, do it because you love it. Enthusiasm is infectious, it really sets the tone.”
⛷️ First-Timers and Powder Pros
Whether you’re totally new or picking up a second sport, the MedSoc ski trip is built for all skill levels.
Kiran, Y1:
“This was my first time skiing ,and I couldn’t have asked for a better chance to learn. Lessons were super affordable, my friends were also new, and we rarely get snow back in Sydney. It was unforgettable.”
Gwen, Y1:
“I’ve been skiing for years, but I really wanted to learn how to board. I figured I’d gotten good enough at skiing to give it a shot. And learning something new with people is the best icebreaker. It fit perfectly with my goal of meeting new people.”
As Bec puts it perfectly:
“There’s nothing like falling down a slope together to form close friendships.”
Lawl! Trauma bonding beyond Med fr!
❤️ If I’m being honest…
As one of the more introverted participants on this trip, I had so much fun, and that’s exactly why I decided to write this article. For those who missed out on earlier Med events like MedCamp or didn’t get the chance to socialise much in the first two terms, the ski trip felt like a second chance — a reset button, where you could make some of the best friends you’ll carry through the next few years.
With how smoothly and stress-free everything went, we truly have Bec, Charlie, Zoey (our incredible tour guide), our tireless bus driver, and Luke and James (our welfare legends) to thank. Their support meant all we had to do was show up, and everything else — from logistics to laughs — was taken care of.
So if you’re considering signing up next year… don’t overthink it. Just go. But as always, don’t take it from me —
🗣️ What would you say to someone considering the ski trip next year?
Kiran, Y1:
“I was nervous at first, and I didn’t know what to expect, or if I had over- or under-packed. But Bec and Charlie were super helpful and kept everything running smoothly. You could hire whatever you needed at the resort, and the affordable organised lessons made a huge difference. I’d have been completely lost without them.
I’d honestly recommend it to anyone, no matter your experience level. It’s a great way to make or deepen friendships, especially because everything is planned for you. No stress, no logistics, just fun. My friends and I are already planning to go again next year, where we will hopefully be a bit better than we were this year…”
Bec, Y2 (Organiser):
“If it’s your first time skiing, this is one of the best ways to try it. So many others are beginners too, so you’re never alone. You’ll do lessons together, fall together, laugh together — and that’s how friendships are made.
Even if you’re going solo, it’s such a welcoming, easy-going vibe. If you missed out on MedCamp or haven’t had a chance to put yourself out there yet — this trip is your second chance.”
Gwen, Y1:
“Just try new things and meet new people! Especially for first years, now’s a good time to step out of your comfort zone and try new things and meet new people.”
Signing off,

🤪 And here are more of some of the funniest Moments from the Slopes, just for laughs
Kiran, Y1:
“I think the funniest thing that happened was the first time my friend and I (who are both not huge fans of heights) went on a chair lift and we started singing Let It Go when the lift stopped moving mid-ascent. I’m not sure how much the chairs in front and behind us enjoyed the vocal showcase, but it definitely was a memorable and funny experience to help pass the nerves of going on the chair lift for the first time!”
Gwen, Y1:
“I got hit by not one, not two but THREE little ski school kids in the span of 10 seconds. I was just trynna practice my turns, really nice slow and predictable and then all three of them just hit me one after the other and onlookers said it kinda looked like a looney toons animation.”
