Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

Written by Cindy Lac, a reimagining of Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”

How foolhardy was I to take the old, trodden road

Of my predecessors that I had shadowed before

Of the well-read, the trendy mode

Unfortunately, I had not travelled as far from my abode

As I stumble and stutter in front of all…and what for?

To follow the quintessential path, to rise above the rest

Maybe I’d hit a stroke of luck? A courageous idea to mull

I considered taking the other road, well, contemplated at best,

Insofar as perusing the famed and fabled that took that conquest

I shook my head – no! I would rather dully die than die dull

As I stand there, trifled with fear of being seen as an arse

Petrified, unduly robbed of my once prolific productivity

My juniors overtake me, the eyes bright and steadfast

I can’t help but groan at my disappearing class

Mulling over what could have been, at the cost of creativity

I tell this tale, forewarning the immature

Don’t be afraid to be mistaken, to awaken

To witness the bent undergrowth, unshaken

To experience their own minds within the wildness of human nature

Alas, to take… the road not taken
