Whether you were tackling your first beginner lesson, shredding blue runs at Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow, or Perisher Valley, or unwinding at night in the sauna, debriefing in cozy 6-person bunkers, or vibing at one of the epic themed parties organized by Charlie and Bec, there was something for everyone. MedSoc sold out the trip in under 24 hours this year, attracting a record-breaking 60 participants \u2014 up from just 20 in 2024. I somehow survived the J-bar, but we had a full-on quadruple stack going down. I don\u2019t even remember who fell first, just that we were all lying in the snow laughing 10 metres from the top.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Gwen, Y1:<\/em><\/strong><strong><em><br><\/em><\/strong><em> \u201cSeeing some of my friends roll up in crazy costumes first night (shout out the neon orange mullet and OJ cosplay \ud83e\udee3) was pretty funny. Also, figuring out I boarded the first 1.5 days with my feet strapped into the board completely wrong is something my friends are never gonna let me forget\u2026 \u201c<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\ud83c\udfad Themed Parties, Social Energy &amp; Organising Chaos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXcTjGPko3ylJ2oXpt3NV0OFyaW3a60QSu6llCzwyh-sAQ2VgjAgpuvw4Gaels5QG4G_-hZu6pbVn5vdI3jiGBJJnZpSXOd3isuvgwmBKzINEl3ulHUgXgHIXmrAUvWgVgNbmTd2?key=qAV850o50_OjzDKoDr75DQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of costumes \u2014 this year\u2019s themed nights (Neon Night, Character Dress-Up, Trivia Night) were a massive hit, thanks to the efforts of our directors, Bec and Charlie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bec laughed as she recalled how surprised she was at everyone\u2019s commitment to the costumes, she didn\u2019t expect everyone to take the the themes as seriously as they did, but that made the nights so much more fun.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the real magic wasn\u2019t just in the outfits \u2014 it was in the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cEveryone was outgoing in their own way,\u201d Bec said. \u201cIt was just really nice to see people let go, have fun, and give new things a shot.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gwen<\/strong>, who was voted <em>Most Social Person<\/em>, agreed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI went into the trip hoping to meet new people and strengthen friendships, so the setup made it easy. We were in the same motel, same bus, and constantly bumping into each other. Med students tend to be friendly already, so it never felt awkward.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the planning starting <em>way<\/em> early, Bec says organising the trip with Charlie was one of the best things she\u2019s done. Fun fact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two actually decided to run for Sports Directors on a ski lift during the 2024 trip. Talk about full circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cPlanning would\u2019ve been 10 times harder without Charlie,\u201d Bec shared. \u201cWe balance each other out really well. If you\u2019re running for Sports Director next year \u2014 start early, make it inclusive, and honestly, do it because you love it. Enthusiasm is infectious, it really sets the tone.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u26f7\ufe0f First-Timers and Powder Pros<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdG1jM-7C3bwK35AkRfNMwRgaylOWPEWbQlvFNPzJ2WOnvPxrAZlXlkmrvUq-LSiLjRI1ArytHD6OdSXRYPKhEjjhK2c9XDN2F22q9xOPcSGMFVAV8-tHVf-1OV7lzqgH_6IEUf5w?key=qAV850o50_OjzDKoDr75DQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re totally new or picking up a second sport, the MedSoc ski trip is built for all skill levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kiran, Y1:<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><em> \u201cThis was my first time skiing ,and I couldn\u2019t have asked for a better chance to learn. Lessons were super affordable, my friends were also new, and we rarely get snow back in Sydney. It was unforgettable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gwen, Y1:<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><em> \u201cI\u2019ve been skiing for years, but I really wanted to learn how to board. I figured I\u2019d gotten good enough at skiing to give it a shot. And learning something new with people is the best icebreaker. It fit perfectly with my goal of meeting new people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Bec puts it perfectly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing like falling down a slope together to form close friendships.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawl! Trauma bonding beyond Med fr!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u2764\ufe0f If I\u2019m being honest\u2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">As one of the more introverted participants on this trip, I had so much fun, and that\u2019s exactly why I decided to write this article. For those who missed out on earlier Med events like MedCamp or didn\u2019t get the chance to socialise much in the first two terms, the ski trip felt like a second chance \u2014 a reset button, where you could make some of the best friends you\u2019ll carry through the next few years.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With how smoothly and stress-free everything went, we truly have Bec, Charlie, Zoey (our incredible tour guide), our tireless bus driver, and Luke and James (our welfare legends) to thank. Their support meant all we had to do was show up, and everything else \u2014 from logistics to laughs \u2014 was taken care of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if you\u2019re considering signing up next year\u2026 don\u2019t overthink it. Just go. But Bec and Charlie were super helpful and kept everything running smoothly. You could hire whatever you needed at the resort, and the affordable organised lessons made a huge difference. I\u2019d have been completely lost without them.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I\u2019d honestly recommend it to anyone, no matter your experience level. It\u2019s a great way to make or deepen friendships, especially because everything is planned for you. No stress, no logistics, just fun. So many others are beginners too, so you&#8217;re never alone. I\u2019m not sure how much the chairs in front and behind us enjoyed the vocal showcase, but it definitely was a memorable and funny experience to help pass the nerves of going on the chair lift for the first time!\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Gwen, Y1:<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><em> \u201cI got hit by not one, not two but THREE little ski school kids in the span of 10 seconds. I was just trynna practice my turns, really nice slow and predictable and then all three of them just hit me one after the other and onlookers said it kinda looked like a looney toons
