Those who don\u2019t have any remaining available brain cells should proceed with caution.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A student, recently revising for his up and coming BGDB exam grew concerned about his development on the Piaget scale. So, like any good medical student, he attempted to apply Piaget\u2019s theories of development to the real world i.e. medical school. The student shared these findings in the hopes that other medical students could identify their own developmental deficits before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Sensorimotor stage ( Phase 1 Students)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>0 \u2013 6 weeks of first starting Med: Reflexes. You can\u2019t help it. You don\u2019t know of any other way to make friends. You had no life before medical school. It\u2019s simply a reflex \u2013 \u201cWhat ATAR did you get?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>6 weeks \u2013 4 months: Habits. You\u2019re slowly conditioning yourself to shut up about ATAR. But now a new habit has emerged. You can\u2019t seem to stop telling everyone you know that you do Medicine. It hurts you to even try holding it back. You can feel that vein on your forehead throbbing if you haven\u2019t told someone in 5 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>8 &#8211; 9 months: Object Permanence. It finally hits you over the head. You\u2019re actually studying to be a doctor. Crap<\/li>\n<li>9 \u2013 12 months: Connections between \u2018means\u2019 and \u2018ends\u2019. In other words, \u2018stress\u2019 and \u2018alcohol\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>12 \u2013 18 months: Learning new ways to cram for the EoP exam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Pre-operational (Phase 2 Students)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The emergence of language. How are people going to realise you\u2019re a Medical Student if you don\u2019t drop a few buzz-words every now and then. Your friend has a common cold? Nah, it\u2019s probably \u201cmethicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Pretend Play. It\u2019s becoming the norm to percuss on your friends whenever you can. You could win an Oscar for that counselling station. You have empathy buzz-words coming out of your nose.<\/li>\n<li>However, you still fail in your logical reasoning at times, and try as you might, it\u2019s hard understanding people who don\u2019t do Medicine like you. But as it is, it\u2019s alright \u2013 refer to b).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Concrete Operations (Phase 3 Students)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basically, the stage where you get your shit together.<\/li>\n<li>You actually start putting the information you learn to real life situations.<\/li>\n<li>Empathy isn\u2019t always faked. Hard to believe, but it&#8217;s true.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Formal Operations (Competent, Balanced, Reflective Practitioners)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This stage is characterised by the development of abstract thinking about subjects such as love, and sexual maturity.<\/li>\n<li>Considering you\u2019ll be stuck in medical school for six years and training until your middle-age crisis, it\u2019s no surprise that not all medical professionals will ever reach this stage. In fact, a clinical trial of a robust sample size of 5 participants show that more than 50% of doctors will never reach this stage**.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>**This trial never happened. It came to me in a dream.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n        <div class=\"booster-block booster-reactions-block\">\n            <div class=\"twp-reactions-icons\">\n
